The policemen have been divided into 60 groups to patrol main streets to detect traffic violations and public disorder.
Police will be on duty until 6 am of August 28 at major streets to prevent and deal with the violations.
The decision to deploy police follows a group of 15 people that held a motorbike race around the Hoan Kiem Lake area at midnight after Vietnam defeated Bahrain to qualify for the ASIAD quarter-final on August 23.
Some hours after that, another team of 40 people conducted the same race in Dong Da District. Police then arrested some people.
Police in HCM City have also followed suit and will have 500 policemen to be on duty on street for the same task.
