Jackfruit nuts are thrown away in Vietnam but are quite a popular product in Japan. A pack of jackfruit nuts is sold at VND200,000 per kilo in Japanese supermarkets. A 10cm chunk of banana trunk costs VND280,000 in some Japanese supermarkets. Tam bop (Japanese name Sutoroberi tomato) (English name Strawberry Tomato) grows wild in Vietnam but a kilo of Strawberry Tomatoes can cost VND700,000 in Japan. Japanese people think the “Strawberry Tomato’ fruit has many health benefits. A box of Hao Hao instant noodles (30 packs) is sold for VND500,000 on Amazon’s Japanese website, five times higher than their price in Vietnam. A bottle of Nam Ngu fish sauce is VND140,000, 6 times higher than the price in Vietnam. Dried jackfruit costs VND160,000 per pack, 3-4 times higher than in Vietnam. A fresh banana leaf is for sale at VND500,000 on Amazon’s Japanese website, while they are often thrown away in Vietnam. A bottle of Chinsu soya sauce costs VND160,000, 8-9 times higher than the cost in Vietnam. Eggplant has become a Japanese specialty, and a tin can set buyers back by nearly VND200,000. Vietnamese coffee is more expensive in foreign markets. A box of coffee G7 (16 packs) becomes quite expensive at VND200,000. |
