President Luong Cuong and a high-level delegation departed Hanoi this afternoon for China to attend the 80th anniversary of the world’s victory over fascism and to conduct official engagements from September 2-4. The visit follows an invitation from Chinese Party General Secretary and President Xi Jinping.
Accompanying the President are Nguyen Trong Nghia, Head of the Central Commission for Propaganda and Education; Deputy Prime Minister Bui Thanh Son; Le Khanh Hai, Chief of the Presidential Office; Ha Thi Nga, Vice Chairwoman of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front; Nguyen Hoang Anh, Deputy Head of the Central Policy and Strategy Commission; Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Hong Thai, Deputy Minister of National Defense; Permanent Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Nguyen Minh Vu; Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Ngoc Lam, Deputy Minister of Public Security; Pham Thanh Binh, Ambassador to China; and Nguyen Hoang Anh, Deputy Chief of the Presidential Office and Assistant to the President.
This marks President Luong Cuong’s first working trip to China as Head of State. The visit coincides with the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and China (January 18, 1950 - January 18, 2025), contributing to strengthening and deepening the comprehensive partnership between the two countries.
According to Permanent Deputy Foreign Minister Nguyen Minh Vu, Vietnam’s attendance reflects its consistent stance as a nation that has long struggled tirelessly for peace and justice. Coming right after the celebrations of the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day on September 2, President Luong Cuong’s participation symbolizes Vietnam’s responsible voice in supporting global efforts for peace, security, and development.
The visit follows that of Zhao Leji, Chairman of China’s National People’s Congress, who attended Vietnam’s 80th National Day celebrations alongside delegations from China’s Party, State, and the People’s Liberation Army. This underlines the solidarity and mutual support between the two Parties and countries, both in their shared struggle for national liberation and in today’s nation-building and development efforts.
During the visit, President Luong Cuong will hold talks with key Chinese leaders. These meetings are expected to reinforce and realize high-level common understandings on enhancing political trust, expanding practical and mutually beneficial cooperation across multiple fields, managing differences, and maintaining a peaceful and stable environment for national development while contributing to regional and global stability.
Vietnam and China possess significant potential for cooperation. Amid a complex global political and economic landscape, strengthening bilateral ties and leveraging economic complementarities align with each country’s foreign policy priorities and broader international trends.
The 80th anniversary of the anti-fascist victory in China will draw participation from numerous world leaders, including Russian President Vladimir Putin, North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, Cambodian King Norodom Sihamoni, and Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto. High-level representatives from major international organizations will also attend. Notably, 50 international guests and family members from 14 countries, including Russia, the US, the UK, France, and Canada, who contributed directly to China’s resistance war, have been invited.
A military parade will be held on September 3 at Tiananmen Square, featuring large-scale formations, modern equipment, and a significant number of weapons presented to the public for the first time.
