VietNamNet Bridge – During his three-day visit to Vietnam (May 23-25), US President Barack Obama met with Vietnamese leaders, had dialogues with Vietnamese youth, enjoyed Vietnamese cuisine and had exchanges with people.

At 9.30pm on May 22, the US President
stepped down from the Air Force One to Noi Bai Airport, starting his
official visit to Vietnam, with the first two days in Hanoi.

He was warmly welcomed by Vietnamese officials and people.

He was welcomed at a state ceremony on May 23 morning at the Presidential Palace in Hanoi.

The welcome ceremony was presided over by President Tran Dai Quang.

At the meeting between the two President, the two sides issued a joint statement on the bilateral relations.

The US President then met and walked around the Presidential Palace Complex with National Assembly Chairowoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan.

At the joint press conference with President Tran Dai Quang, President Obama announced to completely lift its ban on
lethal weapon sales to Vietnam.

Answering questions related to the US’s decision to fully lift the ban
on lethal arms sales to Vietnam, the President clarified that the
decision was based on a long process of bilateral relations beginning
with courage and difficult conversations over the past decades.

At the state banquet, the brief statement of the US President impressed the
attendants for the sincerity and understanding of Vietnamese culture. He
commented that Vietnam carries full quality of Lotus - the flower grows
from the mud, full of hardship, the symbol of beauty, hope, strength
and courage.
