President Tran Dai Quang has sent a letter of congratulations to Speaker of Parliament of Singapore Tan Chuan-Jin, President of the 39th ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA) General Assembly, on the event, scheduled for September 3-7 in Singapore.
A delegation of the National Assembly of Vietnam led by Vice Chairman Do Ba Ty will participate in the event.
In his congratulatory letter, President Quang highlighted the crucial role and active contributions of AIPA over the past 40 years to the building of a united and unified ASEAN Community for peace, cooperation and prosperous development, thus benefiting all people.
The President praised the theme of the AIPA-39 “Towards a Resilient and Innovative Community”, which he said, is in line with the development goals of the ASEAN Community given rapid changes in the region and beyond.
The building of a self-reliant and innovative ASEAN Community should be based on the three pillars of politics-security, economy, and socio-culture, he said.
He suggested continuously promoting the internal strength of each member state and maintaining the bloc’s solidarity and unification while reinforcing the central role of ASEAN in the evolving regional architecture, increasing intra-bloc economic links and exchanges, enhancing competitiveness, making use of external resources and the Fourth Industrial Revolution (Industry 4.0) for development, and effectively responding to traditional and non-traditional challenges for sustainable development.
In the process of realising the ASEAN Community Vision 2025, the connectivity and complementarities between AIPA and ASEAN are of important significance, he said.
AIPA cooperation is a driving force for joint efforts to build a rule-based regional order and create a favourable legal framework that effectively supports state diplomacy among ASEAN member nations and between them and the bloc’s partners.
Meanwhile, ASEAN collaboration is the cornerstone to promote inter-parliamentary cooperation, President Quang said.
In this spirit, the National Assembly of Vietnam has been actively and responsibly taking part in AIPA activities, contributing to building the ASEAN Community with stable and sustainable development, he affirmed.
He expressed his belief that under the chair of the President of AIPA-39 and the close cooperation of the stakeholders and the thorough preparation of the Singaporean Parliament, the AIPA-39 will be a success.
