President Tran Dai Quang hosted receptions for the newly-accredited ambassadors from Nigeria, Greece and the US in Hanoi on November 6.

At a meeting with Nigeria’s Ambassador Francis Efeduma, the President affirmed Vietnam’s consistent policy of developing traditional friendship and multifaceted cooperation with Nigeria, one of the leading partners in Africa.

He hoped the two countries will maintain high-level delegation visits and increase people-to-people and cultural exchanges while taking more effective measures to boost cooperation in economics, trade and investment on a par with their sound political ties.

The President’s special envoy will visit Nigeria in 2018 to propose orientations to boost cooperation in the private economy, he revealed.

Ambassador Efeduma said the two nations have a lot of cooperation potential, adding that the country’s Minister of Agriculture is due to visit Vietnam next week to seek stronger partnership in this field.

He added that Nigeria always supports and partners with Vietnam at international forums.

While meeting with Greek Ambassador Ioannis Raptakis, President Quang asked the two countries to increase all-level delegation exchanges to promote cooperation in various fields as well as strengthen coordination at multilateral forums such as the United Nations, ASEAN-EU, and Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM).

The President said economic, trade and investment cooperation should become a key pillar in the bilateral relations. He called on the two sides to step up win-win cooperation in the fields of their strengths such as the marine economy, navigation, shipbuilding, agriculture, tourism, culture and education.

He thanked Greece for supporting Vietnam to boost relations with the European Union (EU), including the ratification of the Partnership and Cooperation Agreement (PCA). He asked Greece to back the early signing and implementation of the Vietnam-EU Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA).

Ambassador Raptakis said Greece wants to promote relations between Vietnam and the EU and hopes to be the representative voice of Vietnam in Europe.

Welcoming US Ambassador Daniel Kritenbrink, President Quang said Vietnamese agencies are gearing up for US President Donald Trump’s State visit to Vietnam along with his participation in the APEC Economic Leaders’ Week 2017, which is taking place in the central city of Da Nang, from November 4-11.

The President urged the two sides to increase effective cooperation mechanisms and expand exchanges among officials, departments and localities as well as promote policy, defence-security dialogues, and cooperation in education and culture.

He spoke highly of the US’s efforts in detoxifying toxic chemicals at Da Nang airport and proposed the country provide more assistance in the field.

He said Vietnam highly values the US’s viewpoints in ensuring aviation and navigation freedom, security, and safety in the region, he noted.

Ambassador Kritenbrink said he wants to promote the Vietnam-US comprehensive partnership during his working tenure.

He expressed his belief in the successful State visit to Vietnam by President Donald Trump. Through the visit, the US people and investors will know Vietnam as an attractive destination, he added.
