Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc chaired the first meeting of the freshly-elected government right after the closing of the 13th National Assembly’s 11th session in Hanoi on April 12.

At the meeting, the PM granted the President’s decisions on appoinment to new Cabinet members and told them that the hope for the country’s new achievements is a great responsibility entrusted to them by the Party, State and people.

The government is determined to facilitate entrepreneurship, safeguard national sovereignty and drastically fight corruption and wastefulness, he said.

He also admitted that the new government is facing challenges that need to be overcome, including the severe drought and saltwater intrusion in the Central Highlands and Mekong Delta, business shut-downs and limited revenues to the State budget.

Added to the trouble is public concern over traffic safety and food safety.

As it is three and a half months away from the election of deputies to the 14 th National Assembly and the People’s Councils at all levels for 2016-2021, he asked the government to stay united and pool all possible resources for national development by driving back bureaucracy and promptly settling issues of public concern.

In the lead-up to the government’s April meeting, the leader requested thorough preparations for its agenda. Accordingly, the government will chair a meeting in Ho Chi Minh City with local businesses to seek ways to overcome difficulties.

The government will also open conferences on food hygiene and safety as well as disaster recovery, he said.

Relevant ministries and agencies were requested to refine a resolution on improving the business climate, bettering ODA disbursement, management of public investment and ensuring the safety of credit institutions while preparing for the 2016-2021 government agenda.

Concluding the meeting, the PM also expressed hope that the Cabinet members will do their best to successfully fulfill tasks assigned by the Party, State and people.
