At the meeting, PM Phuc said the Vietnamese and Russian parliaments have maintained regular contact and close coordination at inter-parliamentary forums such as the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) and the ASEAN Inter Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA).

He noted such joint work has contributed to deepening the Vietnam – Russia comprehensive strategic partnership.

For her part, the Russian top legislator highlighted the high consensus among Russian leaders on boosting the trustworthy partnership with Vietnam.

She said the Federation Council will continue working with the National Assembly of Vietnam to push for the effective implementation of agreements and cooperation projects between the two countries, particularly the Eurasian Economic Union – Vietnam free trade agreement.

She lauded the organisation of the Vietnam Year in Russia and the Russia Year in Vietnam, saying that the diverse and meaningful activities will help tighten the bilateral traditional friendship and comprehensive cooperation.

Phuc spoke highly of the effective assistance of the Federation Council, especially of its Chairwoman, in boosting collaboration between Vietnamese and Russian localities recently.

He informed his host that several cooperation deals have been signed between localities of the two countries during his current visit such as the one between Binh Thuan province of Vietnam and Kaluga city of Russia.

The official hoped the Federation Council will continue helping Vietnamese cities and provinces establish collaboration ties with their Russian peers.

Both host and guest agreed to create favourable conditions for their citizens’ travelling between the two countries for better mutual understanding and friendship.

PM meets Russian State Duma Chairman

Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc met with Chairman of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Vyacheslav Viktorovich Volodin on May 23 as part of his ongoing visit to Russia.

The leaders shared their delight with the dynamic cooperation in various fields as well as between Vietnam’s National Assembly and Russia’s State Duma.

PM Phuc spoke highly of the outcomes of V. Volodin’s visit to Vietnam in December 2018, expressing his hope that the two legislative bodies will maintain regular exchanges of delegation at all levels, especially the high-level ones.

He lauded the two legislative bodies’ close cooperation and mutual support at international forums, saying this has positively contributed to promoting the Vietnam-Russia comprehensive strategic partnership.

The Vietnamese leader underlined that the current prioritised task of the governments, ministries and sectors of the two countries is effectively implementing the Vietnam- Eurasian Economic Union free trade agreement.

He spoke highly of the establishment of the inter-parliamentary committee of the two parliaments, which will help realise agreements and collaboration projects between the two countries.

For his part, V. Volodin affirmed that the State Duma always pays special attention to the promotion of bilateral partnership in economy-trade, science-technology, education-training, defence, security and tourism.

The State Duma will actively support the building of a suitable legal framework for the strengthening of investment activities in industry, agriculture, energy and oil and gas between Vietnam and Russia.

He said that the State Duma will work for the success of the Vietnam Year in Russia and the Russia Year in Vietnam to mark the 25th year of the Treaty on fundamental principles of friendship relations between Vietnam and Russia (1994-2019) and the 70th anniversary of bilateral diplomatic ties (1950-2020).

PM Phuc proposed that the State Duma to give legal support and create favourable conditions for the Vietnamese community to lead a stable life and thrive in Russia, thus contributing to fostering the friendship and cooperation between the two countries.

Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc met with leaders of the Russia-Vietnam Friendship Association and the association of former Russian military experts who helped Vietnam during the wartime, in Moscow on May 23 as part of his ongoing official visit to Russia.

The PM affirmed to his guests that Vietnam always bears in mind the valuable assistance of Russian people in its cause of national defence and building.

He highlighted Vietnam’s socio-economic development accomplishments, especially the positive impacts of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) agreement on the country’s economic growth.

Vietnam attaches importance to developing relations with traditional friends, including Russia, he said, adding that the development of Vietnam’s ties with Russia is a long-term strategic direction which will not be affected by complicated developments in the world.

He hoped the Russia-Vietnam Friendship Association and the association of former Russian military experts will host more events to develop the traditional friendship between the two peoples as well as actively support the overseas Vietnamese community in Russia.

Chairman of the Russia-Vietnam Friendship Association Vladimir Buianov and Chairman of the association of former Russian military experts Nikolay Kolesnik pledged to make more active contributions to the development of Vietnam-Russia traditional friendship and comprehensive strategic partnership.

The two associations will promote exchange activities between Vietnamese and Russian war veterans as well as culture, art exhibitions and people-to-people exchanges in celebration of the 70th founding anniversary of bilateral diplomatic ties in 2020, they said.

On the occasion, PM Phuc presented the Vietnamese State’s Friendship Order to Irina Vladimirova Samarina from the Russian State University for the Humanities and Vladimir Mazyrin from the Russian Academy of Sciences in recognition of their significant contributions to the friendship between the two peoples.

Chairman of the Russia-Vietnam Friendship Association Vladimir Buianov also presented a friendship order of the association to the Vietnamese Prime Minister.
