Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc has announced the national census programme, which will include three general censuses and eleven specific censuses.




The three general censuses will relate to housing and population, agriculture and rural areas, and the economy.

The general census on housing and population is to be carried out every ten years on April 1 of years ending with 9 (e.g. 2019, 2029, 2039 etc.) to collect data on the population size, growth and distribution as well as housing and employment.

The general census on agriculture and rural areas is to take place every ten years on July 1 of each year ending with 5, while the census on the economy will be carried out every five years of years ending with 1 and 6.

Among the 11 specific censuses, four cover land use, mid-term housing and population, population changes and family planning, and labour and employment; two relate to national accounts as well as financial and monetary issues.

The remaining five censuses involve different aspects of agriculture, forestry and fisheries.
