This family has been living in the Red River’s Bai Giua (middle warp) for more than a year. The husband is naked all the time while the wife wears clothes sometimes.

This is the family of Nguyen Tuan Nghia and Le Thi Mui. The house of the couple and their 7-year-old daughter was made of bamboo and is isolated from residential areas.

The man, 43, was not afraid to be nude in front of his daughter. In the picture, Nghia was reading a book about Buddhism while his daughter sat besides him.

The child is named Nguyen Duc Hanh, born in 2009.

Hanh still likes sucking at her mother’s breast like an infant.

Mui, 52, said she previously suffered from mild mental disease. Since she met Nghia, gave birth to Hanh and moved to Bai Giua, her disease has eased. "People say we are suffering misery, but here our family does not lack anything. We have a home, food, clothing and the living space is pure," she said.

Hanh swims in the river while her mother does laundry. Whenever it is hot, the family swims.

Hanh learned practicing meditation from her father. She practices for an hour every day.

Living an isolated life, without friends, the child plays with dolls picked up from the landfill. She also shaved the head of her dolls.

Not attending school like other children, Hanh studies at home and listens to stories read by her father.

The family does not interact with people in the nearby fishing village but with people who go to Bai Giua to exercise.

They live in a free manner. They eat and sleep whenever they want.

Mui said she collected scraps or bags for food and money.

The child carries water from the Red River to her home.

The family has meals with their cats, chickens and ducks. Nghia told her wife and daughter to love the animals, plants and not harm them.

"My grandmother loves me very much but she hates my mum because she is usually naked. I wish that we can live together," Hanh said.

The 7-year-old girl usually picks banana flowers and takes them home for food.

She guides her mother to chop coconut. 

The child at a used bookshop with her father and a friend. Hanh enjoys reading, but whenever she goes out to the streets she got a headache and sore nose due to noise and dust ...

The child plays alone.

She said she wanted to go to school and have long hair.
