The 6,000 sq.m space includes sound stages, production areas and a backlot for outdoor scenes for filmmaking and television productions.

The studio includes everything from houses, ships, and fields to small- town and modern-day house settings in HCM City and southern provinces.

Its investors hope the site, Green Media, will become a permanent film and TV production facility in the future.

The studio’s executive director, Lady Phuong Thuy, who is also a singer, said: “Green Media itself is also a tourist site. It has many trees and flowers.”

According to Thuy, the studio’s construction is worth VNĐ15 billion (US$649,000).

Although scenes for several major films and TV shows have been shot in HCM City in recent years, the lack of suitable studios has meant the city was losing out in the race to attract film and TV producers.

This year, several films and TV shows were shot in Hoa Phu Film Studio at HCM Television (HTV), which opened in 2015.

The film studio, located on an area of 500,000 sq.m in Cu Chi District, includes an entertainment park, outdoor film studio and supporting rooms that cater to filmmaking troupes.

It is the region’s largest cultural and cinema centre where cultural activities, including music, film screening, fashion shows, sports competitions, art performances and contests, take place.
