Statistics released by the Population Bureau showed that in 2015, Vietnam had 7.5 million children aged 0-4 and 4.3 million of childbearing age.

Also according to FTA, counting education, healthcare and entertainment products and services for children, the market value would be up to $5 billion a year.

While F&B chains and household-use product manufacturers have to compete fiercely with each other and many brands have to leave as the market is too crowded, the market of products for children and mothers is still very large.

This has prompted many investors to pour money into the market. A series of brands were launched recently, such as Con Cung (blue-eyed children), BiBo Mart and Kids Plaza, and websites and online and offline shops have been marketed, such as Beyeu.com. Foreva.vn (webtretho) and Babyhop.

Analysts commented that advantages are being held by supermarket chains which offer diverse products, which have been expanding their networks rapidly.

In the north, Bibo Mart and Kids Plaza are dominating the market. While BiBo Mart has 36 shops, Kids Plaza has 39 shops in Hanoi. The two chains have been competing fiercely with each other. Where there is BiBo Mart, there must be Kids Plaza, and vice versa.

Located on very advantageous positions, near healthcare centers, hospitals and kindergartens, the two supermarket chains can easily catch people’s attention.

Both BiBo Mart and Kids Plaza have begun conquering the southern market recently. While Kids Plaza has 18 shops in HCM City, BiBo Mart has 34. The brands are expected to march towards other cities and provinces.

Meanwhile, Con Cung first appeared in the south. Fashion products, dresses for pregnant women, toys, food and milk all can be found there.

Within a short time, Con Cung opened 86 shops, including 49 in HCM City, one in Da Nang and the others in neighboring provinces.

A source said that the chain’s owner plans to expand the network to the north in a plan to have 200 shops by next year. If so, Con Cung would be a rival for BiBo mart and Kids Plaza.

Vingroup, a real estate developer which recently poured money into the retail market, has also jumped on the bandwagon. Vingroup’s Kids World is expected to open in many localities in the time to come.
