The project aims to build infrastructure for the institute, including a nursery and an experimental production area comprising green houses and facilities for making vaccine and biological products.

Four laboratories for genetic, enzyme and protein, micro-organism and fermentation, and stem cell technologies will be completed and put into operation.

By 2025, the institute is envisioned to become one of the three national bio-technology centres on a par with ASEAN level. It will have five more laboratories on immunology and vaccine; bioinformatics; biological active elements and biochemistry; pharmacy technology; and marine biology.

The project will also build mechanisms and policies to support the research of genetic modification technologies for application in socio-economic development.

The institute will research ways to conserve and make use of the rare and valuable genetic sources in the central region for agro-forestry-fishery purposes, develop bio-technology in combination with new materials and information technology for application in hi-tech production models in agriculture, processing and environmental protection.

It will promote linkages among research establishments and laboratories in the field of biology in the central region.

A scientific-technological service centre will be established for the transfer of bio-technology in the central region.-VNA
