More than two third of the total 63 localities nationwide have announced the results of elections to the people’s councils at provincial levels for the 2016-21 term just a week after the five-yearly general election last Sunday.

Hanoi and HCM City had the highest lists with 105 members each for the two cities’ people’s councils.

At the elections in Hanoi, Chairman of the city’s People’s Committee, Nguyen Duc Chung, was the highest elected with 95.18 per cent of the votes. The lowest one got 53.76 per cent of the votes.

Hanoi also announced the list of 30 newly-elected deputies for the lawmaking National Assembly. At grassroots levels, the capital city had 1,183 members for people’s councils at district levels and 15,759 members for people’s councils at communal levels.

In HCM City, Chairman of the People’s Committee, Nguyen Thanh Phong, and Chairwoman of the People’s Council, Nguyen Thi Quyet Tam, were among those with high votes with 78 per cent and 77 per cent, respectively.

Da Nang City has announced the list of 49 members for the People’s Council.

Chairman of the city’s People’s Committee, Huynh Duc Tho, topped the election with 88.52 per cent of the votes, followed by the city’s Party Secretary, Nguyen Xuan Anh, with 84.03 per cent of the votes.

Secretary of the city’s Election Committee, Vo Ngoc Dong, who is also Director of the Department’s Home Affairs, said that the total number of voters of Da Nang was nearly 700,000. The voted ballots last Sunday were 99.8 per cent, he said.

The number of members elected for people’s councils at provincial levels in other cities and provinces by yesterday included An Giang (73), Ba Ria-Vung Tau (51), Bac Lieu (50), Bac Giang (85), Bac Kan (50), Bac Ninh (53), Pacific (70), Binh Dinh (60) Binh Phuoc (65), Binh Thuan (54), Cao Bang (50), Ca Mau (54), Can Tho (55), Dak Lak (84), Dien Bien (51), Dong Nai (87), Ha Tinh (55), Hai Duong (64), Hoa Binh (61), Khanh Hoa (54), Lai Chau (84), Lao Cai (56), Long An (60), Nam Dinh (67), Nghe An ( 91), Ninh Thuan (50), Phu Tho (79), Phu Yen (50), Quang Binh (50), Quang Nam (60), Quang Ninh (75), Quang Tri (50), Son La (72) Soc Trang (55), Tay Ninh (52), Thai Binh (66), Thanh Hoa (95), Thua Thien-Hue (53), Tra Vinh (49), Tuyen Quang (59), Vinh Long, (50 ), Vinh Phuc (50), and Yen Bai (59).

The remaining cities and provinces will have to announce the list of elected members for people’s councils at provincial levels within next week.
