Authorities in HCMC have approved a plan to continue the operation of an automated fare collection system for public buses on a trial basis until the end of the year.
Hundreds of old people from 60 to 80 years old have queued outside of Thuy Loi University in Hanoi in order to apply for a free bus pass.
Thousands of Hanoi citizens will be allowed to use buses free of charge from September 1, including national contributors, people with disabilities, the elderly people aged over 60 and members of poor households.
The People's Committee of Can Tho City of Can Tho Province yesterday put into operation the most modern bus station in the Mekong Delta.
HCM City has outlined plans for an overhaul of public transport, including metro lines, a new Bus Rapid Transit system and possible bus lanes as well as trams in an aim to reduce traffic congestion.
