A massive pump system has been installed on HCM City’s Nguyen Huu Canh Street, one of the most flood-prone streets in the city.

Quang Trung Industry JS Company installed the system for trial run on September 20. It took the system only 25 minutes to clear flood water, the results of an hour-long downpour on September 19 and high flood tide.
The new pump has a capacity of 96 cubic metres per hour.
Nguyen Tang Cuong, a representative from Quang Trung Industry JS Company said that the pump's scheduled test had been delayed until September 20.
The machinery cost VND88 billion (USD3.87 million) and is now ready to be deployed any time it floods, Cuong added.
According to Nguyen Hoang Anh Dung, deputy director of the municipal Steering Centre for the Urban Flood Control Programme, said the second test showed positive results, but it would be more accurate to assess the system’s efficiency in more heavy rains.
Earlier, HCM City authorities said that the city would need up to VND97.3 trillion (USD4.38 billion) for flood prevention projects by 2020.
