The punctuality rate for the national flag carrier, Vietnam Airlines, was 86.1 percent, up 2.4 points while the rate of low-cost Vietjet was 84.1 percent in the month, a fall of 1.4 points year on year.

In the January-September period, the four airlines together launched 205,811 flights, of which 180,432 took off on time, accounting for 87.7 percent, up 4.3 points year on year.

Vietnam Airlines’ punctuality rate was 89.9 percent, up 6.9 points; Vietjet’s and Jetstar’s were 85.4 percent and 82.3, respectively, both up two points; and Vasco’s was 96.7 percent, up 1.1 points year on year.

According to CAAV, the total number of delayed flights was 25,388.

Late return of planes was the main cause of the delays and cancellations, accounting for 8.3 percent.

Faults on the side of the airlines themselves were blamed for 2.5 percent of not-on-time arrival rate.

Other reasons for delays and cancellations included airports’ limited infrastructure and services, flight management and operation, weather and technical issues, CAAV said.
