Two packages of explosives, weighing 50kg in total, were found in the cargo section of a coach which was stopped on road passing through Tam Ky District, Quang Nam central province.

Phan Van Dan, 43, from the province’s Que Thuan Commune, Que Son District, was arrested following several days of investigation after a passenger coach owned by the Cẩm Vân transport company, while travelling from the North to South, was stopped on Monday.

The coach with licence plate 43B-023.13 was stopped on road passing through Tam Ky District. Traffic police patrolling the area suspected the coach was being used to transport smuggled goods.

Two packages of explosives, weighing 50kg in total, were found in the cargo section.

The driver of the coach, Do Tan Huyen, and the illegal goods were transferred to the provincial investigative police. They later confirmed the explosives belonged to Dan, who hired the coach to transport the smuggled explosive material to HCM City for sale.

Lieutenant Colonel Bui Hong Tinh, head of the province’s investigative police office, said the police confirmed Dân had been illegally smuggling similar quantities of explosives, and had therefore violated rules related to the transportation of explosives.

Investigation into the case would be expanded, according to Tinh.
