People living near the beach in Quang Ngai City’s Tinh Ky Commune are struggling with the bad smell of rubbish piles on the beach.

Doan Van Hoat from An Vinh Village said big waves and high tides brought the litter ashore, resulting in serious pollution in the area surrounding the beach.

Tonnes of rubbish, including plastic bags and dead animals, has caused local households to shut their door to avoid the terrible smell.

Many children in An Vinh have been affected by respiratory problems since the beach was ravaged by the litter, said Le Thi Thanh, a local resident. She added that her family and many others even had to stir rubbish piles to look for dead animals to mitigate the bad odour.

Nguyen Hoai Thanh, chairman of Tinh Ky Commune, admitted that the beach is often covered by rubbish every rainy season, particularly following storms and high tides. Local authorities have arranged a beach clean-up.
