Quang Ngai is a province in the southern part of the central region. It borders Quang Nam province to the north, with a common boundary of about 60 km; Gia Lai and Kon Tum provinces to the west, with a boundary of more than 142 km, leaning against the Truong Son range.

According to the Report of the Ethnic Committee of Quang Ngai province, the province currently has 187,090 ethnic minorities, accounting for 13.32% of the total population, including 133,104 H're people; 33,227 people of Co ethnic group; 19,689 people of the Ca Dong ethnic group and 1,070 people of other ethnic minorities.

The ethnic minority and mountainous region of Quang Ngai province includes 61 communes in 5 mountainous districts and a number of plain districts with a natural area accounting for more than 2/3 of the total natural area of the province.

According to the results of delimiting ethnic minority and mountainous areas in the period 2021 - 2025, Quang Ngai currently has 6 communes in region I, 3 communes in region II and 52 communes in region III. Among the 5 mountainous districts, Tra Bong and Son Tay are still poor districts. Ethnic minority and mountainous areas of Quang Ngai are difficult areas with slow economic development, low access to social services, and a high rate of poor and near-poor households.

Quang Ngai sets a general goal for its ethnic minority areas as follow: By 2024, achieving the goal of rapid and sustainable poverty reduction, limiting relapse into poverty; contributing to achieving the goal of economic growth, ensuring social security, improving people's lives, increasing income, creating favorable conditions for the poor and poor households to access basic social services on health, education, housing, water and sanitation, access to information, achieving the goal of reducing the rate of poor households in the period 2021 - 2025.

In that spirit, in early 2021, the People's Committee of Quang Ngai province issued the Trade development program for mountainous, remote and island areas, applied in 7 localities, including: the communes of Binh Son, Son Tinh, Mo Duc, Ly Son, Son Ha, Ba To and Duc Pho town.

The program aims to narrow the gap between regions, contribute positively to socio-economic development, increase people's income. It also targets to have the total sales of goods and services in this area reaching a growth rate of 9 - 11%/year; developing branded products and goods that have characteristics, specialties, potential, and advantages by 2025.

To achieve the above goals, Quang Ngai province recently organized a conference to attract investment in ethnic minority and mountainous areas and a program to give wings to start-up dreams in ethnic minority and mountainous areas, contributing to preserving and promoting traditional cultural values of ethnic minority communities.

Many young people in ethnic minority areas have taken advantage of the region's strengths and OCOP products to start businesses, create jobs and stable income for local residents.

The Provincial Ethnic Committee also organized an information conference to attract investment in ethnic minority and mountainous areas; organized and supported investors to survey and seek investment opportunities in ethnic minority and mountainous areas in the province...

The province has implemented projects on developing education and training to improve the quality of human resources, taking care of people's health, and improving the physical condition and stature of ethnic minorities; preventing and combating child malnutrition, implementing gender equality, and solving urgent problems for women and children; investing in the development of very few ethnic minority groups and ethnic groups with many difficulties...

In addition, the projects to develop sustainable agricultural and forestry production, promoting the potential and strengths of regions to produce goods based on the value chain have been implemented to support forest protection contracts with local farmers on a total area of 63,567.3 hectares.

In addition, the 'One Commune One Product' (OCOP) program has been carried out throughout Quang Ngai province, including ethnic minority areas. Among the OCOP products certified at the provincial level, typical products associated with each locality have initially been formed such as Tra Bong cinnamon products, Nghia Hanh fruits... Many products meet standards for 3 - 4 stars according to OCOP criteria such as Giang Phong lingzhi mushroom, An Tra clean rice, malt, black garlic, rice paper, fish sauce...

The opportunities for market development, associated with quality, brand and product consumption chain of ethnic minority areas will be strongly supported and expanded by the local government.
