The plants were grown in flower pots and styrofoam boxes on the rooftop at the house of Vu Viet Cuong (born in 1965) in Ha Long city’s Ha Lam district. The police learnt that the plants were grown by Cuong’s son, Vu Viet Thang, born in 1989, for his personal use.

The place was discovered after police stopped a suspect who possessed two small packs of drugs.

The case is being investigated by authorised agencies.

In March this year, police of Dak Glong district in the Central Highlands province of Dak Nong uprooted nearly 7,300 marijuana plants illegally grown in Dak R’Mang commune.

Nguyen Van Minh, head of Dak R’Mang commune police, said the plants were cultivated on about 5,500 sq.m.

The area, 20km from the residential area through jungle, belongs to Nguyen Duc Ha, a resident in Dak R’Mang commune.

Ha rented the land plot to a person of unknown gender called Diep, who had since fled, about four months ago for farming.-VNA
