The arrested men – Boun Lieng, born in 1984, and Thao Xay, 1979 – were caught red handed in Salavan, just 8m away from the Lalay international border gate in Quang Tri’s Dakrong district.

They admitted that they were smuggling the drug into Vietnam looking for buyers.

Also seized on scene were a short gun, six bullets, a bike with the Lao plate and two mobile phones.

The captured men and things were handed over to Salavan’s security force for further investigation.

Nguyen Van Dien, head of the department for drug and crime control under the Quang Tri border force, said the arrest was part of a big case that began in late 2016.
