Vietnam chess master Nguyen Quoc Hy won a silver medal at the World Cadets U8, U10 and U12 Chess Championships that wrapped up on October 30 in Batumi, Georgia (local time).

According to Nguyen Minh Thang, head of the chess department of the National Sports Administration, Hy, who is playing in the Open U10 category, amassed 8.5 points after 11 matches.
In the eleventh match, Hy drew with his Canadian rival I. Nameer and climbed into the second position in the final ranking.
Russian chess master M. Ilya won first place with 9 points.
This year, Vietnam sent a team of nine competitors to Georgia. Hy was the only master that earned a medal.
Three other Vietnamese chess players were listed among the top 15 including Vu My Linh (U8 girls, 7 points), Dang Anh Minh (Open U8, 7.5 points), and Vo Pham Thien Phuc (Open U10, 7.5 points).
