Striker Uche Iheruome of FLC Thanh Hóa will not be a nominee in the best foreign player category.

Quyết, earlier this week, received a two-match ban and fine of VNĐ15 million (US$670) following his violent reaction during V.League’s 26th round match against Nghiêm Xuân Tú of Quảng Ninh Coal last Saturday.

Iheruome, meanwhile, was suspended for two matches and fined VNĐ5 million ($220) due to his extreme objection against a referee in the match between Thanh Hóa and Sông Lam Nghệ An.

“The award honours a player who has excellent sportsmanship in the field. Its rules state that the award winners should not have received a ban from the club, local football agency and the VFF. Therefore, these two players did not qualify,” the award organisers said in an announcement released on Thursday.

Votes in favour of these players that were sent to the organisers will not be considered.

Quyết, 26, is the national team captain. He was a serious contender for the title, displaying a strong performance throughout the season for both his Hà Nội club and the national team.

He has twice won the Silver Ball in 2014 and 2015.

Currently, there are 14 players competing for the title. — VNS
