The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment has proposed the establishment of a network of Ramsar sites and wetland reserves around Vietnam.
Vietnam became a member of the Convention on Wetlands, known as the Ramsar Convention, in 1989.
Vietnam became a member of the Ramsar Convention in 1989. So far, nine wetlands in the country have been recognised as Ramsar sites – wetlands of international importance.
VietNamNet Bridge – Due to prolonged drought, sea water has intruded the world Ramsar sites in the Mekong Delta, damaging their inundated ecosystem and the rare flora and fauna.
