According to Box Office Vietnam, the film earned 18 billion VND (approximately $760,000) from 1,937 screenings nationwide over the weekend. Its strong performance confirms the continued popularity of films adapted from hit reality TV formats among local audiences.
The weekend’s runner-up was horror film Silent Hill: Nightmare in the Mist, which brought in 7.3 billion VND - less than half of The Puppet of Freedom's gross. A surprise came from the animated movie Little Monster of Lang Lang Mountain, which made a solid debut with 7 billion VND, placing third.
Next in line were Haunted Mansion (4.2 billion VND) and Conan Movie 1: The Time Bombed Skyscraper (2 billion VND). Originally released in Japan in 1997, the first Conan film no longer holds the same draw for Vietnamese audiences as newer installments.
The weekend also marked a downturn for several previously dominant films like Bloody Paradise, Avatar 3: Fire and Ashes, and Zootopia 2, all of which dropped significantly in both revenue and ranking. The newly released crime drama Proof of Life debuted at 10th place, with earnings under 1 billion VND.
