Gaming smartphones have often been dismissed as a fading category in recent years. RedMagic, however, clearly sees things differently. The Chinese technology brand has officially launched the RedMagic 11S Pro globally, demonstrating that gaming phones still have plenty of room to grow. Based on its hardware alone, the device may be one of the most powerful smartphones currently available.
RedMagic 11S Pro goes global with extreme specifications
After debuting in China last week, the RedMagic 11S Pro has now begun rolling out to international markets. The device brings nearly all of the highlights of its Chinese counterpart, including one of the most powerful overclocked processors currently available in the Android ecosystem.
At its core is the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 Leading Version, a special edition of Qualcomm's latest flagship chipset. According to RedMagic, the processor delivers approximately 19% higher CPU performance and up to 24% greater GPU power compared with the previous generation.
Notably, the same hardware platform is also found in some of today's most expensive Android devices, including the latest Galaxy Ultra models. RedMagic, however, has gone beyond simply adopting a powerful chip. The company combines the processor with a physical cooling fan capable of reaching 24,000rpm and a liquid-cooling system visible through the transparent rear panel.
While most flagship smartphones have embraced sealed glass designs, RedMagic continues to follow a performance-first philosophy, accepting a more unconventional appearance in exchange for stronger sustained performance during extended gaming sessions.
Large display, huge battery and astonishing charging speeds
The RedMagic 11S Pro features a 6.85-inch OLED display with a 144Hz refresh rate. More importantly, the screen remains completely uninterrupted, with no notch or punch-hole camera cutout, creating a fully immersive viewing experience for both gamers and video enthusiasts.
Peak brightness reaches 1,800 nits, allowing the device to perform well even under strong outdoor lighting conditions. It is an impressive figure for a gaming-focused smartphone.
The specification drawing the most attention, however, is the battery. RedMagic has equipped the device with a massive 7,500mAh battery, far exceeding the capacity found in most flagship smartphones today.
For perspective, even premium devices such as the latest Galaxy Ultra and iPhone Pro Max models do not come close to matching this figure. More impressively, RedMagic has managed to maintain a relatively balanced design rather than turning the device into an oversized and cumbersome handset.
The phone supports both 80W wired charging and 80W wireless charging, allowing users to quickly restore power and spend less time tethered to a charger.
The arrival of the RedMagic 11S Pro is particularly notable as the gaming smartphone market faces increasing uncertainty.
Industry sources indicate that Asus may temporarily halt development of its ROG Phone lineup next year. If that happens, the number of manufacturers still seriously committed to dedicated gaming phones will continue to decline.
Against this backdrop, RedMagic's strategy feels like a clear statement that the segment remains alive. Rather than adopting a more neutral design to appeal to mainstream consumers, the company continues to develop products that proudly embrace gamer culture, complete with active cooling systems, RGB lighting and futuristic industrial design.
Pricing that could make Samsung and Apple uncomfortable
One of the most attractive aspects of the RedMagic 11S Pro is its pricing.
The standard model, featuring 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, starts at $849. Meanwhile, the higher-end version with 16GB of RAM and 512GB of storage is priced at $949.
These prices are considerably lower than many premium flagship devices from Samsung and Apple, despite offering comparable processing power through the same generation of top-tier silicon.
For users who prioritize gaming performance, battery life and thermal efficiency, RedMagic is delivering a compelling value proposition.
Despite its impressive specifications, the RedMagic 11S Pro is not without shortcomings.
Its biggest weakness remains the camera system, particularly the 16MP under-display selfie camera. While the technology allows for a completely uninterrupted display, image quality typically falls short of what conventional front-facing cameras can deliver.
The 50MP main camera and 50MP ultra-wide camera are more than capable of handling everyday photography, but they are unlikely to compete with industry leaders such as Apple, Samsung and Google in the mobile imaging space.
It is a familiar trade-off among gaming smartphones: maximizing performance often comes at the expense of camera excellence.
What ultimately makes the RedMagic 11S Pro stand out is not simply its specification sheet. More importantly, it is a product willing to follow its own path at a time when the smartphone industry is becoming increasingly homogeneous.
Instead of blending into the crowd, RedMagic continues to build devices unapologetically designed for enthusiasts - and in doing so, it may have created one of the most distinctive flagship smartphones of the year.
