Immediately after being set free by people, fish and turtles were caught again for resale to customers in front of the renowned Tran Quoc Pagoda in Hanoi.

On the morning of February 22, the auspicious 7th day of the first month of the lunar year, people flocked to Tran Quoc Pagoda for offering incense. In front of the pagoda gate, dozens of people sell fish, turtles and snails to be set free into West Lake.

Turtles were sold at around VND30,000 (USD1.4)-150,000 (USD6.8) each, depending on their size.

A man who was among the sellers followed buyers to catch the creatures with a spoon-net after they were released into the lake. He then re-sold these creatures.

When being asked why he caught the fish which had been just released by a young girl, the man did not say anything and he continued following others to hunt for the released creatures. The man action was opposed by many people.
