As the number of Vietnamese students heading to New Zealand’s universities continues to grow, ENZ today welcomed results of the 2018 QS World University Rankings which revealed all eight of the country’s universities are ranked in the top 3 percent of leading universities worldwide. Moreover, the overall higher education system of New Zealand ranked seventh best in the world in the annual Universitas 21 table.

According to the QS Rankings 2018, New Zealand is the only country in the world to have all of its universities ranked within the top 3 percent. Five of New Zealand’s eight universities improved their rankings, while the University of Auckland was ranked New Zealand’s top education provider, placing 82nd worldwide.

The University of Auckland was ranked New Zealand’s top education provider, placing 82nd worldwide.

New Zealand’s university system was also recently ranked as the seventh best in the world in the annual Universitas 21 league table, where countries are ranked on factors such as government spending, research, and the independence of universities to run their own affairs.

John Laxon, Education New Zealand’s Regional Director of South, South East Asia & the Middle East, said that the universities’ strong rankings were a key factor for prospective Vietnamese students.

For Thi Nguyen, a student at the Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand’s world-class education and safe environment are second to none.

“The Victoria University of Wellington is considered to be one of the leading teaching and research institutions in New Zealand. In my time here, I’ve been fortunate to be involved in a range of activities including the Victoria Leadership Program and the Victoria Plus Program, which have given me the opportunity to develop skills that are important for my career. New Zealand is one of the most peaceful countries in the world, and studying in Victoria has been one of the best experiences of my life,” said Thi.

“It is exciting to see more and more Vietnamese students choosing New Zealand as their preferred study destination. These positive trends reflect the strong relationship between Vietnam and New Zealand, with thousands of Vietnamese students now forging impressive careers in Vietnam and around the world. We look forward to welcoming more students in the near future,” Laxon said.

ENZ celebrates one million social media followers with NZD10,000 scholarship

For a limited time only, Education New Zealand (ENZ) is offering a NZ$10,000 scholarship for a current or prospective international student, including those from Vietnam.

ENZ is offering this scholarship as a way to celebrate reaching one million social media followers across their various platforms, including the Study in New Zealand Facebook page, Twitter, Weibo, WeChat, Instagram and Snapchat.

The scholarship will include tuition costs and course-related costs at a New Zealand educational institute of the student’s choice, up to a value of NZD$10,000.

In order to enter the promotion, students must post a comment on ENZ’s 1 Million Cent Scholarship post on ENZ’s Facebook page by 12pm on 20 July. ENZ then will shortlist 10 candidates to compete in the second round, where they are asked to submit their education background, intention to study in New Zealand and ability to study in New Zealand. The final winner will be then decided by ENZ based on the aforementioned criteria.

John Laxon, Education New Zealand’s Regional Director of South, South East Asia & the Middle East, noted that more than 130,000 students choose to study in New Zealand every year from more than 180 countries worldwide.

“This scholarship is designed with that focus in mind, and provides us with the opportunity to thank our dedicated social media followers by offering them an opportunity to pursue a positive learning experience in New Zealand,” said Laxon.

“Currently there are more than 2,200 Vietnamese students in New Zealand, and over the years we’ve seen an increasing number of Vietnamese students choosing New Zealand as their preferred study destination. Through efforts like this, we hope to creatively engage with prospective students from Vietnam and around the Southeast Asia region,” Laxon added.

Current and prospective Vietnamese students are welcome to apply for the scholarship. Applications for the scholarship are open until 20 July 2017, and the winner will be announced on 1 August 2017.
