The information was given by Tran Dac Phu, head of the Department of Preventive Medicine under the Ministry of Health.   

The northern region has faced the rapid increase in dengue fever patients, which is attributed to the wet weather caused by heavy rains over the past month.

Hoang Duc Hanh, deputy director of the Hanoi Health Department, since the beginning of this year, Hanoi has seen 6,699 dengue fever cases, including three deaths.

Over the past two weeks, E Hospital in Hanoi has received around 80 dengue fever patients on average per day who come to for medical check-ups with 30 among those hospitalised.

Bach Mai Hospital is providing treatment for a number of pregnant women who are infected with dengue fever, posting risks for both mother and their child.

Meanwhile, HCM City has also reported the sharp rise of dengue fever patients. Dr. Nguyen Minh Tuan from Ho Chi Minh City Paediatrics Hospital 1, said that up to seven patients in the city died due to dengue fever.

He added that over the past two months, around 90 patients were taken to HCM Paediatrics Hospital No 1 per week on average.

So far this year, the hospital has received nearly 2,000 dengue fever cases.
