Police in the popular tourist town of Hoi An have arrested a group of men involved in various robberies of foreign tourists.

Hoi An Chairman Nguyen Van Dung gave the certificate of merit to the city police


On February 13, Hoi An Chairman Nguyen Van Dung praised and gave the certificate of merit to the city police for quick arrests of robbers who target tourists during Tet.

The police in Hoi An quickly conducted an investigation after four cases were reported between February 6 to 11. They arrested a group of four men including, Tran Van Quang from Hoi An, Dinh Phuong Son, Tran Huu Phuoc, and Le Dinh Thong all are from Dien Ban Commune, Quang Nam Province one day later.

The men admitted that on February 6, they robbed a backpack which contained a camera, a phone and about VND1.3m from a Dutch tourist. On February 10, they robbed a bag from Chinese tourists containing a phone and VND7.3m.

On the following day, two tourists from France and Serbia lost their backpacks to the men.

The motorbike which the robbers used was also a piece of important evidence. After viewing security camera images last year, the police was able to find out the vehicle's owner, Huynh Ngoc Huy, born in 2003.

Huy admitted that he also co-operated with Tran Van Quang to rob three people since last May.
