The event “Run with me -2gether 2017” is the second of its kind organised in Hanoi to mark the 35th anniversary of international day of persons with disabilities and is part of the fourth anniversary of Young Southeast Asian Leaders Initiative, a US government programme to strengthen leadership and networking in Southeast Asia.
Participants including visually-impaired people and sighted pairs will hold hands and run together on two different routes - 1.7km or 3.4km, equivalent to one round and two round trips around the lake.
Besides the race, people will also learn how the blind use canes, write and read. They can play chess together or enjoy musical performances by the blind.
The event is organised by Viet Nam and Friends – a Vietnamese non-profit organisation advocating improved public awareness on issues about disabled people, especially their access to education. — VNS
