A Russian honor guard held a ceremonial parade at the airport to welcome General Secretary and President To Lam, his spouse Ngo Phuong Ly and a high-ranking Vietnamese delegation.
On the afternoon of Sept. 7 local time, the special aircraft carrying General Secretary and President To Lam, his spouse and a high-ranking Vietnamese delegation landed at Vnukovo International Airport in Moscow.
To Lam and his spouse began a state visit to Russia from Sept. 7-9 at the invitation of Russian President Vladimir Putin.
According to the Vietnam News Agency, the Russian delegation welcoming To Lam at Vnukovo International Airport included Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko, Russian Ambassador to Vietnam Gennady Stepanovich Bezdetko and the head of the Protocol Department at the Russian Foreign Ministry.
On the Vietnamese side were Ambassador to Russia Dang Minh Khoi and his spouse, along with officials and staff from the Vietnamese Embassy.

At the airport, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Chernyshenko greeted and welcomed General Secretary and President To Lam and his spouse at the foot of the aircraft stairs.
To Lam and his spouse then walked along the red carpet to the position of honor, where a military band played the national anthems of Vietnam and Russia.
To Lam subsequently saluted the Russian military flag, inspected the honor guard and watched as the Russian troops performed a ceremonial parade.
Immediately after arriving in Moscow, To Lam was scheduled to receive Gennady Zyuganov, Chairman of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation; meet representatives of veterans’ and Russia-Vietnam friendship organizations; and meet officials and staff of the Vietnamese Embassy as well as representatives of the Vietnamese community in Russia.

Vietnam and Russia share a traditional friendship that generations of leaders and people from both countries have worked to cultivate for more than 75 years.
The visit reaffirms Vietnam’s consistent approach, continuity and high regard for its traditional friendship and Comprehensive Strategic Partnership with Russia.
It also provides an opportunity for the two countries’ top leaders to hold in-depth discussions on strategic issues, establish a long-term vision and create new milestones and political momentum to comprehensively elevate Vietnam-Russia relations, while aligning bilateral cooperation with each country’s development goals in the new period.
The visit is expected to further strengthen the foundation of political trust and enhance the role of high-level diplomacy by maintaining regular contacts between the top leaders of the two countries.
