Russian team LC1BC won the global-scale cyber security competition Whitehat Grand Prix 2018, which took place in Hanoi on November 1.

In the final round, teams had to overcome security breaches in a challenge that lasted eight hours.

LC1BC’s first place finish came with a prize of 230 million VND (10,000 USD). The Republic of Korea’s Coconut Coffee team and Polish P4team came second and third, earning approximately 45 million VND and 25 million VND (2,000 and 1,000 USD), respectively.

Three teams from Vietnam – Injoker10K, ACEBEA, and r3s0L – secured the 5th, 6th and 8th place, respectively.

According to deputy head of the Information Security Department Nguyen Huy Dung, the competition had the highest number of participants among all Whitehat Grand Prix events to date, with 720 teams from 79 countries and territories.  

Themed “Legends of Vietnam”, the content of the Whitehat Grand Prix 2018 was developed by Vietnamese and international IT engineers around 18 Vietnamese legends to promote the country’s culture. 

The online qualification round of the event ran for 24 hours on August 18 and 19. The 10 teams that survived the round gathered in Hanoi for the final.

In 2014, the first WhiteHat Grand Prix was held simultaneously in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. It became an annual international competition the next year, drawing the participation of leading cyber security teams from across the world.

In 2017, it attracted 453 teams from 62 nations and territories.-VNA
