The Ho Chi Minh City-based basketball team Saigon Heat has signed a contract with American basketball player Paul Williams, who is expected to lift the team for the remaining season of the ASEAN Basketball League.

Williams, 32, is a former member of the National Collegiate Athletic Association. The centre, who is 2.08m tall, has spent 10 years playing in professional tournaments in Spain and England, before arriving in Japan in 2013.
Also, he has been awarded many individual titles, including the All-Spanish LEB Bronze Defensive Player of the Year and the All-British BBL Centre of the Year.
In Japan, Williams played for Takamatsu Five Arrows and scored an average 13 points and 10 rebounds per game. He then moved to Aomori Watts for the next year, scoring 12.5 points and 8.9 rebounds, along with 2.9 assists per game.
His transfer fee and salary have not been revealed. Saigon Heat will play a match against Filipino Pilipinas NX3 Kings on January 6 on at the USEP Gym in Manila.
Saigon Heat is the first professional basketball team in Vietnam. It was set up in Ho Chi Minh City in 2011.
