A young man with an infamous reputation about expatriates and tourists has been arrested in Ho Chi Minh City after a two-year campaign of robbery while posing as a police officer.

British tourists Thomas Conlett reported that he and his friend Jack Graham were apprehended by a man claiming to be a police officer.

The man pointed what appeared to be a gun at Conlett and said that he had to pay a traffic fine. Lacking cash Conlett had to withdraw money and handed over USD363. His friend was robbed of his iPhone.

Three days later, Japanese national Sudo Kenji of Japanese national was robbed of his phone when excercising by the same man.

Another case happened on May 31 to three foreign visitors. The man again posed as a police officer, demanded to inspect the bag which contained a laptop, camera, recorder and USD113, and ran away.

The latest case was on June 7 when a Malaysian visitor was also pulled over while driving on Hung Gia Street and had his bag robbed.

After investigated, the police arrested the man, 21 years old, at his house on June 8. They found nine different bags, two wristwatches, one laptop and one fake police card.

According to the police, he admitted to carrying out seven successful robberies. The money was all spent on methamphetamine.

The man had been arrested previously in 2012 for extorting properties.
