A scaffolding collapse has blocked traffic at Sai Gon River Tunnel on Monday morning.

According to traffic police in District 2, the collapse was caused by a truck which was running through the tunnel at 5am and hit the scaffolding of a construction project at the tunnel's entrance.

The incident has caused seriously congestion at some surrounding streets including Mai Chi Tho, Vo Van Kiet, Ton Duc Thang, Hai Ba Trung, Nguyen Huu Canh and Nguyen Co Thach.
Workers clear the site
The Sai Gon River Tunnel, or Thu Thiem Tunnel, which links the new urban area of Thu Thiem in District 2 with downtown Ho Chi Minh City in District 1 running under the Sai Gon River opened to traffic in 2011.
The tunnel is 1.49km long, 33m wide and 9m high. It has six lanes which can carry around 45,000 automobiles and 15,000 motorcycles a day.
