Runner Nguyen Thi Oanh has pocketed another gold medal in the women’s 5,000m event for Vietnam at the ongoing Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games) 29 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Nguyen Thi Oanh finished the 5,000m event in 17 minutes and 23.20 seconds
With the achievement of 17:23:20, the Vietnamese athlete topped the race. Her teammate Pham Thi Hue won the silver while the bronze medal went to Triyaningsih from Indonesia.
Earlier, Oanh won a gold medal at the women’s 1,500m category.
Meanwhile, in the long jump event, Bui Thi Thu Thao showed her best performance to bring home a gold medal. This was her first gold at this Games.
As of 10:00 am on August 25, Vietnam remained second in the SEA Games 29’s medal table, with a total of 94 medals, including 37 golds, 25 silvers and 32 bronzes.
Vietnam sent more than 470 athletes to compete at the region’s biggest sporting event from August 19-31. They are competing in 32 out of 38 sports and aim to bring home 49-59 gold medals for a top three.
