According to the list of 500 elected deputies to Vietnam’s 16th National Assembly released by the National Election Council, several high-ranking generals from the military and public security forces have secured seats in the new legislature.

Among them, General Phan Van Giang, Minister of National Defense (born 1960, from Ninh Binh province), was elected in Thai Nguyen province. He previously served as a deputy of the 15th National Assembly in the same locality.

General Phan Van Giang received 385,104 votes, accounting for 99.62 percent of valid ballots.

General Nguyen Trong Nghia, Director of the General Department of Politics of the Vietnam People’s Army (born 1962, from Dong Thap province), was elected in Tay Ninh province. He had previously served as a deputy in the 14th and 15th National Assembly terms.

He secured 329,502 votes, equivalent to 81.46 percent of valid ballots.

General Nguyen Tan Cuong, Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army and Deputy Minister of National Defense (born 1966, from Ninh Binh province), was elected in Dong Thap province. He had been a deputy of the 15th National Assembly representing Ho Chi Minh City.

He received 386,130 votes, or 73.01 percent of valid ballots.

Senior Lieutenant General Le Duc Thai, Deputy Minister of National Defense (born 1967, from Quang Ninh province), was elected in Thanh Hoa province with 495,423 votes, representing 98.00 percent of valid ballots.

Major General Luu Nam Tien, Political Commissar of the Hanoi Capital Command (born 1975, from Bac Ninh province), was elected in Hanoi with 473,551 votes, or 83.13 percent.

Lieutenant General Tao Duc Thang, Chairman and General Director of the Military Industry - Telecommunications Group (born 1973, from Thanh Hoa province), was elected in Ho Chi Minh City with 475,474 votes, accounting for 78.14 percent.

Major General Nguyen Thanh Trung, Political Commissar of the Ho Chi Minh City Command (born 1976, from Ho Chi Minh City), was also elected in the city with 388,727 votes, or 78.90 percent.

Lieutenant General Duong Van Thang, Chief Judge of the Central Military Court and Deputy Chief Justice of the Supreme People’s Court (born 1969, from Hai Phong), was elected in Ho Chi Minh City with 590,745 votes, or 81.58 percent.

Senior Lieutenant General Be Xuan Truong, Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee and President of the Vietnam Veterans Association (born 1957, from Cao Bang province), was elected in Cao Bang with 135,060 votes, or 86.76 percent.

Major General Huynh Van Ngon, Deputy Political Commissar of Military Region 9 (born 1971, from An Giang province), was elected in Dong Thap with 347,824 votes, or 77.76 percent.

Major General Tran Minh Trong, Deputy Political Commissar of Military Region 5 (born 1973, from Da Nang), was elected in Gia Lai with 360,996 votes, or 85.88 percent.

Rear Admiral Pham Minh Tuan, Deputy Commander of the Navy (born 1972, from Da Nang), was elected in Khanh Hoa with 357,780 votes, or 89.10 percent.

Major General Vu Dai Duong, also Deputy Commander of the Navy (born 1973, from Ninh Binh), was elected in Khanh Hoa with 327,964 votes, or 89.52 percent.

Major General Nguyen Van Lich, Deputy Commander of Military Region 1 (born 1975, from Bac Ninh), was elected in Lang Son with 199,915 votes, or 84.45 percent.

Major General Ngo Nam Cuong, Deputy Commander of Military Region 4 (born 1974, from Hue), was elected in Nghe An with 407,063 votes, or 94.71 percent.

Major General Luong Dinh Hung, Deputy Commander for Legal Affairs of the Vietnam Coast Guard (born 1971, from Ninh Binh), was elected in Nghe An with 345,412 votes, or 95.32 percent.

Major General To Thanh Quyet, Deputy Commander of Military Region 3 (born 1972, from Hai Phong), was elected in Ninh Binh with 248,775 votes, or 92.33 percent.

Major General Pham Hung Hung, Deputy Commander of Military Region 2 (born 1973, from Phu Tho), was elected in Phu Tho with 394,260 votes, or 93.30 percent.

Major General Nguyen Ngoc Ha, Deputy Commander of Military Region 4 (born 1972, from Nghe An), was elected in Quang Tri with 307,230 votes, or 89.21 percent.

Major General Vo Tien Nghi, Deputy Commander of the Border Guard (born 1976, from Ha Tinh), was elected in Quang Tri with 211,589 votes, or 91.94 percent.

The list of elected deputies also includes several senior officers from the public security sector.

General Luong Tam Quang, Minister of Public Security (born 1965, from Hung Yen province), was elected in Hung Yen. This marks his first term as a National Assembly deputy.

He received 454,595 votes, accounting for 99.22 percent of valid ballots.

Lieutenant General Pham Cong Nguyen, Director of the Department of Legal Affairs and Administrative and Judicial Reform under the Ministry of Public Security (born 1975, from Hai Phong), was elected in Thanh Hoa with 618,416 votes, or 98.23 percent.

Senior Lieutenant General Le Quoc Hung, Deputy Minister of Public Security (born 1966, from Hue), was elected in Ho Chi Minh City with 552,644 votes, or 62.66 percent.

Major General Duong Duc Hai, Deputy Director of Hanoi Police (born 1977, from Hanoi), was elected in Hanoi with 425,688 votes, or 85.22 percent.

Major General Ta Van Dep, Deputy Director of Ho Chi Minh City Police (born 1975, from Tay Ninh), was elected in Ho Chi Minh City with 496,070 votes, or 73.79 percent.

Major General Nguyen Van Han, Director of An Giang Police (born 1971, from Ca Mau), was elected in An Giang with 254,816 votes, or 80.92 percent.

Major General Nguyen Minh Tuan, Director of Phu Tho Police (born 1975, from Thanh Hoa), was elected in Phu Tho with 576,676 votes, or 95.49 percent.

Major General Nguyen Thanh Liem, Director of Quang Tri Police (born 1975, from Ha Tinh), was elected in Quang Tri with 242,596 votes, or 87.20 percent.

Major General Vu Hung Vuong, Standing Vice Chairman of the Association of Former People’s Public Security Officers (born 1951, from Hung Yen), was elected in Vinh Long with 268,285 votes, or 61.22 percent.

Members of the National Assembly’s defense and security committee

Also elected were several generals serving in the National Assembly’s Committee for National Defense, Security and Foreign Affairs.

Senior Lieutenant General Le Tan Toi (born 1969, from Ca Mau), Chairman of the Committee and Deputy Minister of Public Security (seconded), was elected in Tay Ninh with 346,260 votes, or 77.07 percent.

Lieutenant General Nguyen Minh Duc, Deputy Chairman of the Committee (born 1969, from Ninh Binh), was elected in Ho Chi Minh City with 576,150 votes, or 64.82 percent.

Lieutenant General Tran Duc Thuan, also Deputy Chairman (born 1968, from Nghe An), was elected in Nghe An with 337,013 votes, or 96.44 percent.

Major General Nguyen Quoc Hung, Deputy Chairman (born 1969, from Hai Phong), was elected in Ninh Binh with 413,780 votes, or 93.40 percent.

Major General Vu Huy Khanh, a full-time member of the Committee (born 1974, from Hai Phong), was elected in Ho Chi Minh City with 458,261 votes, or 68.36 percent.

Major General Vo Van Hoi, also a full-time member (born 1971, from Vinh Long), was elected in Vinh Long with 432,777 votes, or 72.52 percent.

The National Election Council has officially confirmed the results, announcing the full list of 500 deputies elected to the 16th National Assembly, marking the beginning of a new legislative term for 2026-2031.
