SHB Da Nang, the third-placed team in the 2016 V-League 1, will take part in the 2016 Toyota Mekong Club Championships, according to the Vietnam Football Federation.

Previously, the V. League winners have usually been offered to play in the tournament, but newly-crowned Hanoi T&T won’t be able to play due to undisclosed reasons. As a result, SHB Da Nang has been selected to replace Hanoi T&T in the event.

This is the first time Da Nang will take part in the championships. In the two previous seasons, Becamex Binh Duong represented the Vietnam national premier league at the tournament.

Da Nang will compete in the event’s qualifying round alongside Lanexang United of Laos and Yadarnabon of Myanmar. They will compete in a round robin format. The best team will meet Boeung Ket Angkor of Cambodia in the semi-final.

The winners of the semi-final will meet the winners of the 2016 Thai League Cup in the final match.

The tournament will be held between November 2016 and January 2017.
