Two ships collided near Bai Chay Bridge in the northern province of Quang Ninh’s Ha Long City, killing one captain.

The scence of the accident

The accident happened at around 2 am on January 7 at Cua Luc area near Bai Chay Bridge as vessel Daio Southern Cross which was travelling from Cai Lan Port hit into another from Ninh Binh Province transporting cement. 

As a result, the Ninh Binh vessel with five on board was sunk. Right after that nearby pilot boats tried to save four crew members, while the captain Nguyen Van Thanh, 32, died. Meanwhile, the ship was seriously damaged.

According to the initial information, the Ninh Binh ship was overloaded with cement.

At 8 am on the same day, the captain body was found.
