The ship sinks off in the waters between Thanh Hoa Province and Nghe An Province on Sunday.

The cargo ship, named Duc Cuong 06, sank when it was on the way from Thanh Hoa Province’s Nghi Son Port to HCM City’s Long Bình Port, the Maritime Administration of Thanh Hóa said. The ship’s body was reportedly broken. All 10 crewmen were rescued by fishing boats nearby.

The ship, which is also carrying around 5,000 tonnes of clinker, has now sunk 13 metres below sea level.

The maritime administration has informed all vessels running in and out Nghi Son Port about the location of the sunken ship so that they avoid the spot.

The cause of the incident is being investigated.
