Italian tennis star Jannik Sinner showcased his dominance by defeating Learner Tien 2-0 in the final of the 2025 China Open, securing the championship in a powerful and emotional performance.
Tien, the Vietnamese-American breakout star of the tournament, had stunned fans by eliminating Daniil Medvedev in the semifinals. But in the final, the 19-year-old struggled to match the consistency and power of Sinner, often dubbed the "Italian machine."
In his very first service game, Tien was broken - giving Sinner an early lead he never relinquished. Sinner’s powerful groundstrokes and remarkable consistency gave him the upper hand in extended rallies.
Tien only managed to win one game before the first set ended 6-2 in Sinner’s favor.
Entering the second set with renewed determination, Tien appeared more aggressive and even had a chance to break early. However, Sinner quickly regained control, elevating his game with accurate, powerful serves and a clinical ability to capitalize on his opponent’s errors.
Multiple double faults from Tien opened the door for Sinner to score two additional breaks.
Ultimately, Sinner secured the second set with the same 6-2 scoreline, wrapping up the final in convincing fashion and lifting the China Open trophy.
Although Learner Tien fell short of the title, his performance throughout the tournament marked a historic achievement. His run to the final, including a monumental win over Medvedev, represents a milestone not only in his career but also for Vietnamese-American tennis.
