Vietnam's entry-level smartphone segment has become significantly more competitive as manufacturers and retailers continue to adjust prices.

While 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage were once common at this price point, consumers with a budget of around VND5 million can now choose from multiple devices offering 8GB of RAM, 128GB or 256GB of storage, high-refresh-rate displays and large batteries.

The Samsung Galaxy A08 with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage is available at some retailers for around VND4.6 million.

The Samsung Galaxy A08 with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage is now available at some Vietnamese retailers for around VND4.6 million ($175), below its original listed price.

The phone is aimed at consumers who prioritize brand recognition, stability and software support over specifications.

The Galaxy A08 features a 6.7-inch 90Hz display, MediaTek Helio G99+ chipset, 50-megapixel main camera and 6,000mAh battery. It supports 25W charging and carries an IP64 rating for dust and water resistance.

One of the Galaxy A08's main advantages is Samsung's ecosystem and software support policy. However, its 4GB of RAM and particularly its 64GB of internal storage are becoming significant limitations.

For today's users, 64GB can fill quickly after installing apps and storing photos and videos.

The Galaxy A08 is therefore better suited to casual users, students, older consumers and those who value brand familiarity and peace of mind over hardware specifications.

OPPO A6T stands out with a 7,000mAh battery

OPPO A6t 4G.png
The OPPO A6T's 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage put it at a disadvantage against better-equipped rivals.

The OPPO A6T with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage is selling for around VND4.99 million ($190).

Its standout feature is a massive 7,000mAh battery paired with 45W SUPERVOOC fast charging.

That capacity gives the phone a significant advantage for consumers who spend long periods watching videos, browsing social media, making calls, working or traveling. Its Snapdragon 685 processor is also sufficient for everyday tasks.

However, the A6T faces the same memory disadvantage as the Samsung model.

With only 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage, it is less compelling on paper than rivals offering 8GB/128GB or even 8GB/256GB configurations at similar prices.

It is therefore better suited to buyers who prioritize battery life, while those seeking stronger performance or more storage have other options.

Tecno Pova 7: The performance king around VND5 million?

TECNO POVA 7.png
The Tecno Pova 7 combines a 7,000mAh battery with 45W fast charging.

For buyers seeking maximum performance for their money, the Tecno Pova 7 is difficult to overlook.

The 8GB RAM and 128GB storage version is currently priced at around VND4.59 million ($175).

It features a 6.78-inch FHD+ 120Hz display, MediaTek Helio G100 Ultimate processor, 7,000mAh battery and 45W fast charging.

That combination is particularly noteworthy for a smartphone costing less than VND5 million.

The FHD+ 120Hz screen provides a noticeably smoother experience for watching videos, scrolling through social media and gaming compared with models equipped with HD+ 90Hz displays.

The Pova 7 is also designed with gaming in mind, including a large cooling system that makes it better suited to consumers who frequently play games on their phones.

The trade-off is its relatively aggressive gaming-oriented design, while its software interface may not appeal to users who prefer a more minimalist experience. Its cameras are also not the phone's strongest selling point.

For buyers seeking performance, long battery life and a strong display, however, the Pova 7 is currently among the best-value options in its segment.

Meizu Mblu Note 21 Pro: 8GB RAM and 256GB storage

Meizu Note 21 Pro.png
The Meizu Mblu Note 21 Pro offers 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage.

The Meizu Mblu Note 21 Pro NFC is emerging as a direct rival to Xiaomi's Redmi 15C by offering 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage for around VND4.79 million ($182).

The phone has a 6.78-inch FHD+ 120Hz display, Helio G99 processor, 64-megapixel main camera, 5,000mAh battery and 30W fast charging.

Its 256GB of storage is a major advantage for consumers who frequently take photos and videos or install large numbers of apps.

Compared with the Pova 7, the Meizu offers more storage, while the Tecno model has the advantage in battery capacity and its gaming focus.

Potential buyers may need to consider Meizu's smaller ecosystem and lower brand recognition in Vietnam compared with Samsung, OPPO and Xiaomi.

On specifications alone, however, the Mblu Note 21 Pro remains a highly competitive option for the price.

Redmi 15C: 256GB storage for less than VND4.5 million

REDMI 15C.png
The Redmi 15C features a large 6.9-inch display and 6,000mAh battery.

Xiaomi's Redmi 15C is one of the biggest surprises in this price segment.

The version with 8GB of RAM, 256GB of storage and NFC has been discounted to below VND5 million at some retailers. At times, its price has fallen to around VND4.49 million ($171).

The Redmi 15C features a large 6.9-inch display, 6,000mAh battery, 33W charging and MediaTek Helio G81-Ultra processor.

The configuration is well suited to mainstream consumers seeking a phone they can use over the longer term without frequently deleting files to free up storage.

Its main disadvantage is the display, which remains at HD+ resolution while rivals such as the Pova 7 and Mblu Note 21 Pro already offer FHD+ 120Hz panels.

Even so, when the Redmi 15C 8GB/256GB version is available for around VND4.49 million, it offers one of the most attractive hardware-to-price ratios in the segment.

Nubia V80 Max: 120Hz display and big battery, but a modest chipset

Nubia V80 Max.png
The Nubia V80 Max with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage is priced at around VND4.99 million.

The Nubia V80 Max with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage is currently priced at around VND4.99 million ($190).

The device targets consumers seeking a large display and long battery life, combining a 6.9-inch 120Hz screen with a 6,000mAh battery.

Its 8GB of RAM, NFC support and 50-megapixel main camera give the V80 Max a fairly comprehensive specification sheet.

However, its Unisoc T7250 processor makes it difficult for the device to compete directly with the Pova 7 or Mblu Note 21 Pro in performance.

The V80 Max is therefore better suited to users seeking a device for entertainment, social media, video viewing and everyday tasks rather than a gaming-focused smartphone.

The most notable development in Vietnam's smartphone market in October 2026 is how many features once associated with more expensive devices have moved into the VND5 million segment.

At this budget, consumers can now find 120Hz displays, 8GB of RAM, 256GB of storage or 7,000mAh batteries.

With basic specifications improving rapidly across the segment, choosing the right device increasingly comes down to individual priorities - whether that means performance, storage, battery endurance, software support or brand familiarity.
