Cho Ray Hospital’s doctors perform surgery on a patient with serious cellulitis in the groin.

It was the first time that the hospital had admitted such a serious cellulitis case, doctors said.

The 54-year-old patient of Bình Thuận Province had diabetes type 2, chronic hepatitis B, cirrhosis and a right hepatic tumour.

Dortor Ngo Duc Hiep, head of the hospital’s Burn and Plastic Surgery Ward, said the patient had scratched his groin to relieve the itching caused by chronic hepatitis B and cirrhosis.

The chronic hepatitis B had worsened the cellulitis, Hiep said.

Doctors in 10 specialised wards worked together during the surgery, he added.

The patient has been discharged from the hospital.
