Box office surprise: Sky death match dominates as new releases struggle in Vietnam.
Sky death match continues to dominate Vietnamese box offices in its third week, crossing 213.3 billion VND (approximately 8.6 million USD) in total revenue, while the 18+ horror film Torture hill, starring Hua Vi Van, is set to stop screening from October 7 due to poor performance.

Over the past weekend, Sky death match maintained its top spot with a significant lead over new Vietnamese releases, including Sister falls, I lift and My hand holds a star.
As of 8:00 a.m. on October 6, data from Box Office Vietnam confirmed that Sky death match, featuring Thai Hoa and Thanh Son, had earned nearly 25 billion VND (about 1 million USD) over the weekend alone, with 256,000 tickets sold across 7,854 screenings - though this marked a significant drop compared to the previous week.
In second place was Sister falls, I lift, starring Quoc Truong, Le Khanh, and Uyen An. Despite the star-studded cast, the film brought in just under 7 billion VND (roughly 282,000 USD) after three days, with about 70,000 tickets sold over 3,655 screenings - a modest result for a domestic film.
Meanwhile, My hand holds a star, which stars Hoang Ha and South Korean celebrity Lee Kwang Soo of Running Man fame, had a lackluster opening weekend with only 5.3 billion VND (around 213,000 USD) in revenue and 54,000 tickets sold. Despite Lee Kwang Soo’s popularity in both South Korea and Vietnam, his promotional efforts in Vietnam did little to boost the film’s performance.

The Hollywood blockbuster Avatar: The Way of Water earned nearly 4 billion VND (approx. 160,000 USD) from 25,000 tickets sold in under 1,000 screenings this past weekend as it returned to cinemas for a limited-time re-release.
In contrast, the 18+ horror film Torture hill dropped to 13th place in its second week, grossing just 191 million VND (around 7,700 USD). Its cumulative earnings now total a mere 2.1 billion VND (about 85,000 USD) after 10 days.
On the evening of October 6, the film’s official fanpage announced it would stop screening from the following day, October 7, though no specific reason was given for its early exit from theaters.
