This past weekend, Sky Combat held firm at the top of the Vietnamese box office, while Red Rain continued to attract large audiences before its official theatrical run ended on September 29.
The box office battle between Sky Combat and Red Rain remained intense. As of 8 a.m. on September 29, Sky Combat had surpassed 165 billion VND (approximately 6.76 million USD) in total revenue, according to Box Office Vietnam. The film, inspired by a real airplane hijacking in Vietnam, entered its second week of dominance. Over the past weekend alone, it grossed 48 billion VND (about 1.96 million USD) with nearly 500,000 tickets sold across 11,046 screenings. The film features popular actors Thai Hoa and Thanh Son.
Red Rain experienced a brief slowdown but surged again after announcements confirmed the film would end its theatrical run on September 28. This prompted a wave of fans to catch a final screening, giving the film a last-minute weekend boost.
As a result, Red Rain added 14 billion VND (around 573,000 USD) to its total earnings from 144,000 tickets sold across 3,690 screenings. Although capable of drawing more viewers, the film concluded its run with a historic total gross of 714 billion VND (about 29.2 million USD) and over 8.1 million admissions - many of whom watched the movie multiple times.

Animated feature Chainsaw Man - The Movie: Reze Chapter, which debuted on September 26, ranked third at the box office with modest earnings of over 3 billion VND (123,000 USD). Hollywood action epic One Battle After Another, starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Sean Penn, followed closely in fourth with just 1.5 billion VND (61,000 USD) despite critical acclaim.
The 18+ horror film Hills of Suffering, which features Red Rain actor Hua Vi Van, placed fifth with a lackluster 1.2 billion VND (49,000 USD) in revenue, despite being given over 1,000 screening slots.
With Red Rain no longer in theaters, the upcoming weekend will see new contenders including the return of Avatar 2, the billion-dollar global blockbuster, and the Vietnamese comedy-drama Sister Falls, Brother Lifts, featuring Uyen An (younger sister of Tran Thanh), Quoc Truong, and Le Khanh.
