Some areas in the northern mountainous provinces of Ha Giang and Lao Cai have been warned to expect flash floods and landslides.

The alert has been issued by the National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting who are predicting bad weather will hit the region in the next few days.

Quang Binh, Xin Man, Vi Xuyen districts in Ha Giang Province along with Bao Yen, Bac Ha and Bao Thang districts in Lao Cai Province are the places most likely to be affected.

Both areas saw heavy rain on Wednesday morning, which is forecast to continue over the next few days.

 

The bad weather is not just restricted to the north, the centre says central and southern regions will also be hit.

Heavy rain and thunderstorms are forecast in the central regions of Phu Yen, Khanh Hoa, Ninh Thuan, Binh Thuan and Tay Nguyen.

In some areas, 150mm of rainfall is predicted, putting the areas on high alert for floods and landslides.
