The work was built based on Son’s experience as a musical composer and his interest in technology including popular and customized software. Through the digital manipulation of sound, the artist forms a space that reflects the audience’s silence, letting them contemplate, among other things, the overarching sense of futility the work creates.
The exhibition is held in conjunction with multiple MoT+++ sound events in March and April that focus on the element of sound across a range of artistic practices. The events give artists the freedom to explore the textural and performative aspects of their work, unfettered by genre-based preconditions.
Phung Tien Son is a multimedia visual artist and university dropout from Hanoi. Music is a continuing feature of Son’s practice and he cites sound and technology as important influences in his work.
His past exhibitions included group shows at the Hanoi Collective Orchestra in 2015 and 2016 and Heritage Space in 2017. In 2018, Son took part in Big Day of Performances – Happy Birthday Bill event as part of MoT+++’s six-month performance program. His sound installation Soundtracks was first exhibited at the Nha San Collective show titled “Mise en Scene” in 2016.
MoT+++ is an independent art space that aims to create a dynamic space for experimentation that encourages artists to push the boundaries of their practice.
