The total money involved in the ring amounted to 5.7 billion Korean Won (4.9 million USD).
Police in Seoul’s Kangbuk district arrested three RoK nationals, including a person surnamed Kang, 49, who operated the ring in the country. The others were found to be in charge of finance and the gambling website.
In May 2015, they set up a fake office at a nightclub in Kangnam district, Seoul, and another in HCM City to operate the ring.
To avoid being discovered, the ring asked all gamblers to send the bet money to the account of the HCM City office via an e-banking service. The betting interests would then be transferred back to the Seoul office’s account.
Kangbuk police said as of the time of the apprehension, about 1,000 people were involved in the ring, and the ring leaders had earned some 600 million KRW.
Police are still hunting for the operators of the fake office in the HCM City.
